Ortona Armoury

Project Details: Dewar Western was the successful proponent to execute selective demolition and removal of hazardous waste from a historical building owned by the city of Edmonton. Dewar Western developed an execution plan for each component of the demolition while adhering to strict guidelines to preserve the historical site. Under the contract, Dewar Westerns demolition team have performed the following services among others: Locating, isolating and relocating utilities, lead removal, asbestos abatement, interior demolition and removal of mechanical components. The historical nature of the building posed many challenges that were overcome, and the project was successful with no damages.

Sears South Gate Redemise

Project Details: Dewar Western was recommended to the building owners by Ledcor who were aware of Dewar Westerns ability to take on a challenging project with a condensed schedule. Under the contract, Dewar Western provided the following services: Hazardous Waste Removal: The building consisted of three floors and a penthouse (approx. 240,000sg/ft) that were divided into six phases, each having a separate Type 3 asbestos enclosure in order to remove and dispose of all asbestos-containing drywall, lead paint, PCB containing light ballasts, flooring, fireproofing and mastics. Demolition: Removal of mechanical piping, large air handling ducts, fan motors and HVAC mechanical systems throughout building. Due diligence in the preparation and planning stages of the project schedule was key in successfully completing this project on time and on budget.

University of Alberta Hospital

Project Details: Dewar Western was awarded phase 1 and phase 2 of the Pediatric Critical Care Renovations. Construction within an operational hospital posed many challenges. Our team had to follow strict Infectious Prevention Control procedures and work in close proximity to the public and active hospital areas that were still treating patients. Under the contract, Dewar Western provided the following services: Removal of asbestos containing drywall, removal of 20,000 sg/ft high risk flooring and removal of HVAC mechanical systems. Throughout the duration of the job, there were no complaints from the public or the hospital and the project was successfully executed.

Edwin Parr School

Project Details: Dewar Western was awarded the contract to remove hazardous materials from the school that was to be demolished. During the initial stages of the project, crews discovered various hazardous construction materials found in the school including asbestos in the pipe insulation and second layer of dry wall as well as mercury in light fixtures, thermostats and switches. Our experienced team assisted the consultant in capturing these materials and quantities that were not previously identified to ensure no one was exposed during demolition. Under the contract, Dewar Western provided the following services: Removal of block walls containing vermiculite, removal of asbestos containing dry wall, ceiling tiles, exterior stucco, flooring, pipe insulation and all PCB containing materials. All hazardous containing materials were safely removed and contained prior to demolition.
